2004 Blue Album
Janette Marie-Anne Bray Stiles began
painting at a very early age--3 to be
exact when she painted her mother's
dresser a rainbow of colors. Called
upon to create any artwork
necessary to her teachers, she
excelled in all art classes, and with a
few supportive teachers to nurture a
vivid imagination, chose art as her
life's work. As a young adult, she
presented her work in many local
shows and held her first solo
exhibition at age 17. After 2 years at
Washington State University in the
Fine Arts Program followed by studies
at Burnley Art School, Janette began
working as a graphic designer.
Painting whenever possible, the artist
amassed a large body of work.
The collection of landscapes,
seascapes, animal and floral paintings,
colorscapes and mixed media grew to
be enormous and in 2000, after nearly
a lifetime of painting, Janette Stiles
and husband Joe formed The Stiles
Collection. The company maintains
over 400 original paintings; some of
which are exhibited twice yearly.
You will see the influence of 18th
and 19th century masters in the
pastoral English countryside paintings.
The Online Gallery includes a special
series on "Endangered Species and
Animals at Risk"; plus the latest series
and video of "Hero Dogs"--22 paintings
inspired by the captivating stories of
these amazing dogs.
1973 Madrid
The artist paints primarily in oils,
acrylics and pastels, but has also done
paintings in watercolor and digital
media. Among some of her own
personal favorite art techniques are
Sgrafitto (etching or scratching into
the paint) and painting with an
airbrush.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
"My work is not only a pleasure, it is a
necessity. Painting fills me with a
sense of purpose and accomplishment.
For me, it's all about color; creating a
scene, mood or feeling using the
millions of colors in our world. My
objective is to transport the viewer to
a place where he or she experiences
something new, uplifting and unique."
Two-time Winner of the National Arts
Program Award and the 2009 AARP
Calender Contest, plus many others,
Janette currently lives with her
husband and Siberian/Shepard dog
Rollie in Tacoma, Washington. They
spend as much time as possible at
their Lake Cushman cabin, located in
the mountains of the Olympic Rain
Forest. The wilderness area has been
inspirational in the creation of the
artist's landscape paintings.
Janette Stiles has a Bachelor's Degree
in Art History and a Bachelor's Degree
in Marketing.
